Cleansing for Healthy Curly Hair
Your curly hair is a delicate structure. The slightest irritation makes wavy, curly andn kinky hair frizzy and dry. Cleansing is a very important step in your curly hair routine. Why? Because this will set the integrity of your curls. Choosing the right cleanser is key and is determined by your personal needs. Most cleansers are deceiving to the eye, using words to draw you in like ‘sulphate free’, ‘vegan’ and ‘no silicones’. My advice is to turn the bottle around to the ingredients. If there are a few long chemical ingredients that you have no idea what they are – then you shouldn’t introduce them to your curls! Deva Curl has two cleansers to choose from – Low Poo, which is a mild lather cleanser – great for those that want the hair to feel a bit clean but won’t strip your curls of its natural oils which is a key benefit for radiant curly hair and No Poo, which is a zero lather cleanser which is extra hydrating and moisturizing for health, radiance and manageability but also won’t strip your curls of its natural being.
Steps for cleansing healthy curly hair:
- Thoroughly rinse your wavy curls or kinky hair with warm water – this will help to soften up your hair and allow any existing products to go down the drain.
- Apply your cleanser of choice – concentrating on the roots, distribute well.
- Important: Scalp massage!! Great for removing buildup on the scalp and bringing healthy blood flow for new healthy hair growth.
- Rinse well. Make sure all the cleanser is fully washed out of your curly hair. Note: Cleansing your curls is not mandatory every time you wash your hair.
Conditioning for Healthy Curly Hair
Conditioning should be done every time you cleanse your curls; however, conditioning can be done without cleansing. There is a misconception that thick textured conditioners are better but curls actually don’t benefit from the weight of these types of conditioners. If you analyze a strand of your hair you will realize how fine it is – you need a light weight product to get to the core of your curls problem which is dehydration! The molecules in one conditioner are small enough to penetrate into the shaft of your curls. Deva One conditioner is great because it is light and it absorbs really well into curly hair.
Steps for conditioning healthy curly hair:
- Distribute the conditioner throughout your hair and detangle your hair using your fingers or a wide tooth comb.
- Rinse your curls with cooler water so that hair strands are smoothened down to get frizz.
- Note: You do not need to rinse all the conditioner out of your hair – the remainder will aid in extra moisture and shine.
